Study Buddy

Study Buddy is a portable study space designed for children ages 5-10. This product design was a team based project conducted over 4 months. After 2 months of design research focusing on identifying relevant VOA’s and key stakeholders our team began designing and prototyping a product that would contribute to a young students sense of independence and increase their engagement with their work.

My primary role on the team was as the visual designer. I worked in photoshop, illustrator, cinema4d, and aero to create compelling graphics that communicated our team’s vision.

Personas

After working with the team to establish 4 user personas based on a number of 1 on 1 interviews and market research, I created corresponding graphics to bring the personas to life. In order of appearance these are Wendy, Jordan, Taylor, and Bill.

Study Buddy Animation

Using the blueprints and sketches from our final concept I created an animation using 3d digital assets I modeled in Cinema4D, a 3D modeling software I have experience in. The purpose of this animation was to communicate how our product functioned without a physical final product being possible.

Progression

The following slideshow shows some progress shots from creating the model and the animation.

AR Implementation

My last main contribution for the team was importing our 3D model into Adobe Aero. Aero is an augmented reality app that takes 3D models and allows anyone to use the Aero app to view the model as if it were a part of their space. I wanted to include this into our project as a means for our peers and potential customers to have the ability to “see” the product for themselves.

I then converted the AR experience to a QR code to allow for ease of access.

I want to thank the rest of my team Liana, Elisabeth, Sahil, and Jeniffer for a succesful and productive project! We worked together to create a thoroughly researched product that targeted a niche in the market of study spaces for children. I hope to take the skills learned here into future design endeavors. Cheers!
